Time has accelerated since the start of 'The Young Brass Musicians Blog' with so many experiences passing under the bridge in the 4 years that this blog has been running.
It has been a year since I was awarded with a First-Class Honors Degree in Music and time has passed rather quickly since then. I have completed my first year in Supply Teaching, basically being a jack of all trades and master of none. It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride but I am pleased to say that I have landed firmly on my feet working in a local SEN school.
But back to the music, I am currently working on a brand new solo by Roger Trigg entitled ‘El Olam’ which translated to mean Eternal, Everlasting, Forever. I have always admired Roger Trigg’s works for brass band and wanted to try and capture some of his signature writing in the form of a Euphonium solo. Watch out for a blog post on this.
It seems funny to see how much my repertoire has changed over the past year. I am currently working on Paul-Lovatt Coopers ‘Neath the Dublin Skies’ a whirlwind of a solo which is more akin to the final scenes of Michael Flatley’s ‘Riverdance’. Further work continues on classic solos such as George Marshall’s ‘Ransomed’ and Erik Liedzen’s ‘Home on the Range’. Finally I am preparing a brand new solo from an emerging talent in The Salvation Army, Samuel Shelley; I look forward to releasing more information soon.
Away from the playing, since November 2015 I have begun to conduct various bands from around the region. It has been an interesting change of perspective to see the inner workings of a brass band. I hope to expand my blog with a few posts based around these experiences.
Apart from that I hope to transform this blog in the next few days to contain more articles. Thanks for your continued reading and support.
